It leaks through environments - farmlands and nightclubs, sewers and oceans. It rejoins the waters of abjection to become anew - the water of ends and beginnings. The liquid is akin to humans but inseparable from nature too. Organic, and synthetic; yellow and amber; repulsive and satisfying; clean and dirty, it is mine as much as yours and theirs. In this pool we swim. This is the ode to the metabolic by-product, to the waste and resource, to the liquid that we no longer can hold onto. The fluid is forgotten as quickly as it is flushed through the bathroom bowels. Urine, piss, pee or wee wee. Do you listen to the water tapping on the ceramic bowl? You nor we can escape the cycle. This returning need makes us feel cross-contaminated but grounded, and connected with and part of what makes us alive. The repeetition so certain but not at all general. It all begins and ends with glomerular filtration. Or when the drinks are absorbed by the lining of the mouth and the tongue, then passed through the stomach and guts into the bloodstream. Or when proteins break down, and urobilin is formed. It all happens again and again when the substances are decomposed into oxygen, nutrients and toxins and then carried with the blood towards glomeruli. In the longer collaborative project, the artists research the place of bodily fluids in their own and other’s practices. Together, we collected our urine and shared it in one pot. We boiled it down and watched the water evaporate until the dark brown minerals started to accumulate at the bottom. Boiling the piss is a process film considering the values embedded in bodies through a shared metabolic conversion of waste. It follows my artistic investigation into researching urine as a photographic developer and/or possibly a fixer too. The negative film was developed with the traditional developer D96, while positive was printed with the urine-based developer. The film also contains a chemigram which combines the leftover materials transformed with the urine liquid inviting a viewer into the metabolizing processes. Constructed Wetlands &amp; Deconstructed Borders is a continuing research into ecological thinking within the alternative photographic practice. It was initiated during the Photographic Garden - the artist in residence programme run by the Sustainable Darkroom. Research explores the application of constructed wetlands: a wastewater treatment method within the photographic darkroom and the fluidity of the wet bodies. Instead of solely focusing on the remediation functions of wetlands, I follow their transformative processes and analyse how they inform processes within the photographic darkroom. I wade through shallow waters, follow creeping rootstalk of water mints and common reeds, and precipitate from the grains of soil. But I do not become remediated, I do not become clean. Instead, I get digested. As wetlands seep through the ecosystems, I become soaked until it is not so clear where my water and your paddle begins and ends. This project is an invitation to explore the digestive cycle of wet bodies and to seek connection through the substances that flow in and out and processes that alter. The project is also my graduation project at MA&nbsp;Ecology Futures (the Master Institute of Visual Cultures). I build on texts of feminist writers and explore concepts of the material self through the methods of attunement, care, transcorporeality and establishing relationships with more-than-human in the photographic darkroom and perhaps further in life too. organism is a concept developed during my study at MA Ecology Futures and subsequently during my residency with the Sustainable Darkroom collective (2021-2022) where I was busy researching constructed wetlands, a wastewater treatment method and the potential of its implementation alongside the photographic darkroom. An organism is a material structure composed of interdependent parts - the body of the photography practitioner is intertwined with the materials. I envision the darkroom as an organism becomes close to a map or an archive, functioning as a storytelling/listening board that aims to explore entangled worlds of humans and more-than-humans meeting in the photographic darkroom. I am hugely inspired by the works of Anna Tsing and Elaine Gan who developed the practices of attunement as a way to investigate the temporal layers within places.&nbsp; The darkroom as an organism is an entity with its peculiar tempo digesting materials, processes and substances inwards and expanding further from its dark walls into the outward worlds. It permeates and it lets seep through.I map the relations from an alchemist's as well as from a carer's point of view. And in collaborations. Since my research is always circling around the notions of sustainability, it is fascinating to question the tensions and layers that accumulate through handling my practice as an entity. <img The film 96 human waste bags left on the Moon (2021, 7’ 30’’) is divided into three parts, each is responding to the proximity of a body. The story was initially inspired by a news article announcing there are currently 96 human waste bags left on the Moon. This information made me curious about human impact during the exploration missions, and the ambiguity of terms such as exploration and its antonym ignorance. The research of the film was influenced by the book Down to Earth by Bruno Latour who reminds us that the Earth is a critical zone surrounding and including us not the Globe as seen from above in the space. As human beings are curious, we have a power to get to see so far away, expand the horizons as well as inevitably change them and forget our closest localities. The film triptych developed into a study of the close and distant, and through listening to abjected bodily sounds, it is an invitation to land nearby our bodies. The first part is using an recorded discus sion between NASA astronauts while observing a surface of the Moon, the second part of the triptych translates belly sounds into a visual language. The third part is a collaboration with dancer Femke Adema who is using the centre of her body - the belly - to move within the space while waiting to depart. ‘The opposite of exploration is said to be ignorance. To be ignorant means not curious enough, not passionate to learn, not hungry to discover what lies behind the horizon in the unfamiliar lands of nobody. How could the world exist without not knowing? Places so far away suddenly become transparent, closer than our own skin. To explore means to travel in or through, to alter, to search, to make familiar, to start a conversation, to usurp, to get to know, to discover, to appreciate, to appropriate, to colonise, to get into the movement things that will never stay the same. How can the world exist with the irreversible? Manoeuvring through time and space to move out of our bodies, but the intestinal motility calls into motion. The photographic paper 5x7 inch fits into the standard size of the beer can or if cropped it fits the soda can. Imperfect pinhole pictures taken on the sensitive photographic paper are showing a distorted reality of the surrounding world.The place is familiar – the tiles of the pavement, the lamp, the fence, the trees and the traffic lights. It could be the street behind our house or the sightseeing we had visited during the holidays. Although the angle has changed, thus we can’t be sure whose projection is offered to us. The unsettling, as Freud (1917 – 1919) would describe, happens when the perspective which should have remained hidden, comes to light and provokes the uncanny mood. Suddenly, the agency to look is given to the leftover objects and we (humans and our neighbourhoods) are in the centre of their gaze.The images are blurry, greyish, with shadows or ghosts and patches of developer. The curved shape of the can makes the wide angle images. It seems like they are showing the views of an intruder who is watching us somewhere from the bushes, from a distance. Often, there is a figure standing in the image. It is me when taking a photograph, although due to a long exposure the person can’t be fully recognized and could be compared to any human who is standing face to face to something that is mysteriously staring at them. The uncanny atmosphere of the images is revealed by the vital materiality of the light-sensitive photographic paper and the nature of the pinhole photography. The images have the power to reveal the story which we have not seen before.The project started in October 2017 during the community festival Made in Roath in Cardiff.&nbsp;The abjected boxes, tins and cans caught my attention. As a pinhole photographer and craftivist, I wanted to respond to the call of rubbish and started to make pinhole cameras out of the found containers, carefully inserting them in the same place, and in the same position to take a pinhole image from their perspective. The aluminium cans are prevailing. How is the world seen through the eyes of those rejected objects? And is it me who is the photographer or the object itself? Is it a person who left the litter on the spot, the wind that drifted it to the side way or a seagull that got curious? Can we shift the gaze and while we are being looked at by the objects around can we think of stories the vibrant matter reveals to us? I started with picking up the rubbish... I am tracking the GPS location and taking a digital image recording its visual position. I clean the rubbish and turn it into the pinhole camera. Afterwards, I place such cameras in the same position as found and take the pinhole image at their height. When I am finished I load that information with the image into the open map and leave the camera on site for anybody to pick up and take away. is imprint we leave on our environment, and what imprint remains on us? In April 2019, I made a cycling journey across Wales, the country which was my home for three years. From Cardiff to Bangor, I cycled and pushed the trailer loaded with my photographic equipment and took the pictures along the road with self-made 4x5 inch camera. My friend, artist and activist Eva Jašková, joined me. Prior the journey, I made The Imprint Machine out of a discarded 3D printer and programmed it to read the GPS of our cycling route. Aidan Taylor wrote the code in Python3 programming language. Each day of the journey was recorded and imprinted on the photographic paper with the beam of light. The imprint depicted on the photogrpahic paper can be read in many ways as the exposure of the light becomes code itself. Is the line relative to landscape which we traveled and thus similar to a contour line? Or does it relate to the life which we experienced? The imprinted line is the record of the landscape reflecting efforts and actions we do in any journey we undertake in our lives. The photographs were taken on Ilford Harman Direct Positive paper and developed with the Caffenol-C developer off grid using the dark Decathlon tent as an improvised photographic darkroom, in the locations away from the heavy light-polution. The bottles of mixed developers were multiplying further we cycled and returned with us home. Some of the images were saved and some have got lost or the cameras got open and the images signed up. Photographs were scanned with the pedal energy of a home made bike generator.
